Winemaker
Caprera Azienda Agricola
Abruzzo, Italy
A small organic farm in Pietranico in the hills above Pescara, close to the Gran Sasso and Maiella national parks. It was founded by friends Luca Paolo Virgilio and Alfonso Morelli, who searched all of Abruzzo for land around 2012 – in Pietranico, at a spot called Vasca, it was love at first sight. They farm about 22 ha on two sites (one beneath rocky mountains, one with views of the Adriatic) with the local grapes Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Passerina and Pecorino. Nearby survive the “palmenti” – ancient winemaking basins carved by hand into the rock.
