Winemaker
Bigi
Umbria, Italy
A winery in Orvieto, Umbria, founded by Luigi Bigi in 1880 – its first home was the former Franciscan convent of La Trinità. Since 1972 it has worked from a modern winery at Ponte Giulio and belongs to Gruppo Italiano Vini, one of Italy's largest wine groups. Its vineyards (around 250 ha) lie in the oldest, “classico” zone of Orvieto. The name of its Vipra wine recalls Orvieto's noble Monaldeschi della Vipera family.
