Winemaker
Maximin Grünhaus
Ruwer, Germany
One of Germany's oldest wine estates, in Mertesdorf in the Ruwer valley near Trier. It is first documented in 966, when it belonged to the Benedictine abbey of St. Maximin in Trier; the monks farmed it until secularisation in 1802. The von Schubert family has owned it since 1882, and the sixth generation, Maximin von Schubert, runs it today. Behind the manor house of 1597 rise the steep slate vineyards Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg.
