Winemaker
Alpha Estate
Amyndeon, Greece
A winery on the Amyndeon plateau in north-western Greek Macedonia, founded in 1997 by viticulturist Makis Mavridis and Bordeaux-trained oenologist Angelos Iatridis. They were looking for a cool, high-altitude site – the vineyards lie at 620–710 m. Today it farms around 220 ha and is one of the flagships of modern Greek wine, famed above all for Xinomavro. The second generation of both families now runs it.
