Château Barreyre
Bordeaux, France
An estate in Macau in the southern Médoc, on the edge of the Margaux appellation, overlooking the Garonne and the port of Macau. The château was built in 1774 by Nicolas Barreyre, and the Barreyre family, a prominent Bordeaux bourgeois family, still owns it. The vines grow on clay-rich river alluvium (“palus”) – so it may only use the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, even though it lies within the Haut-Médoc, which makes it excellent value. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Petit Verdot.
